Skeet Men Junior: Cyprus’s Chapenshis celebrated Gold on Nicosia’s podium .

The Gold medal of the Skeet Men Junior event went to the local athlete Anastasios Chapenshis, 20, who worked his victory off a shoot off against Marcus Svensson of Sweden. It’s a new World Record the score of 353 marked by the German team, winner of the team competition.

The Skeet Men Junior competition resulted in a battle for Gold between the Cypriot shooter Anastasios Chapenshis, 20, and Marcus Svensson of Sweden, the 17-year old Junior Bronze medallist at the last European Championship of Granada. The two athletes ended their five series with a tie score of 121 targets, and their struggle had to be decided trough a shoot off. Chapenshis, shooting in front of his home supporters, outdid his opponent 9 to 8 after a long shot-off conducted on the fourth station, winning Gold and leaving Silver to Svensson. Behind them, a second shoot-off took place for Bronze. There, the 17-year old Wilfred Blanchard III of USA displayed strong determination, outdoing 3 to 2 the German Junior athlete Frank Dittmer, 20. The same Dittimer, fourth in the individual competition, climbed the first step of the team’s podium along with his teammates Frank Cordesmeyer (fifth in the individual rank) and Gordon Gosh. They preceded USA with a record score of 353, overwriting the previous record of 351 set by the Cypriot team just a few months ago at the European World Championship of Granada. Team USA won Sillver, thanks to the 121 marked by the same Blanchard III and by the two 113 scored by his teammates Wesley Wise and Jon McGrath (combined score: 352). Bronze went to Sweden (Svensson, Nilson, Gustafsson), on the podium with a combined score of 347 targets.
